There are two types of Grey Scale (Gray Scale) – one for assessing ‘colour change’ and one for assessing ‘staining’. The colour change scale consists of nine pairs of grey coloured chips, from grades 1 to 5. The staining scale consists of nine pairs of grey and white coloured chips, from grades 1 to 5. They are manufactured strictly in accordance with ISO 105-AO2 and -AO3. We stock the American and Japanese equivalents as well.
Grey Scales facilitate the assessment of change in colour or staining, on a scale of 1-5 (with four half steps), with 5 being good and 1 being poor.
The ‘colour change’ scale is used to evaluate colour shade change in colour fastness tests, eg washing, water, perspiration and light (fastness assessment).
The ‘staining’ scale is used to evaluate the degree of staining on undyed adjacent fabrics during colour fastness testing (staining assessment).
