James Heal Gets Social

James Heal's social media channels are growing.

We've established our own channel on YouTube, where we have a range of videos including product animations, our corporate film 'Extraordinary Testing Solutions', which shows behind the scenes at our headquarters, and a compilation video of entrants into the 140th anniversary competition to find the world's oldest working James Heal Martindale abrasion and pilling tester.

We've been pleasantly surprised to find out that YouTube isn't just home to spoof music videos and films of cute animals doing silly things, but that is also an excellent source of information and guidance on a topic closer to our hearts - textile testing. In particular we were interested to see our instruments being used in video demonstrations by testing companies, such as The British Textile Technology Group (BTTG) using our Flexiburn to carry out flammability testing. The independent UKAS accredited testing and certification laboratory has kindly allowed us to use their video on our channel - please take a look.

Previously solely a source for corporate networking, LinkedIn now has a large number of 'groups' where professionals from around the world can exchange views, pose questions and debate issues that are relevant to them.

Our LinkedIn group Textile Testing has grown enormously in the last 12 months and we now have more than 1200 members. The group is a forum for textile testing professionals, and members can post discussions, ask questions, share relevant information and help to solve testing issues. The group has proven to be an excellent way for us as a business to keep up to date with testing issues that are affecting textile technicians across the world. As group owners we post 'knowledge share' posts to provide members with helpful hints on textile testing and, as several of the James Heal team are on Standards committees, help members keep up to speed with any changes to Standards we're aware of with posts from committee meetings.

At James Heal we don't feel that social media is solely the preserve of teenagers and celebrities - we feel that it can be useful, insightful, and an excellent way of communicating with an increasingly global industry. Why not join us?
